LYME DISEASE
I’ve written a lot about my experience with Lyme disease. You can read here: “Lyme Disease Almost Killed Me”
As a result, many people have asked me what I did to put it into remission. I’ve been 100% symptom free since 2014. I wanted to create this space where I explain exactly what I did, what products I used and my mentality in healing.
This is a daily routine. This is a set of supplements and actions that you have be consistent and persistent in doing.
I know it is very easy to be impatient with this disease. The medical industry’s lack of answers does not help. Also, when we’re so use to being prescribed medications for quick fixes, it’s hard to believe that solutions take time. Sometimes, they do. This disease infiltrates so many parts of the body that it takes some real discipline to handle it.
Do not judge its workability until four weeks in. Whether it is the right fit for you, that is for you and a doctor to figure out. I am not a doctor. I am just someone who had to find solutions on her own and in helping others, I’ve made this page for future reference.
SUMMARY:
The whole concept is you are using the enzyme (serrapeptase) to draw out anything that's foreign to your body, killing it with the antibiotic herbs (oregano/garlic), drawing out toxins and leveling out the blood flow (with Niacin) and then supplementing a clean slate with all the normal vitamins and nourishing your brain with brain food (amino acids).
The Amino Acids are brilliant for handling brain fog, by the way. These and the B3 (Niacin) also help with any sort of depersonalization (feeling like you’re living outside of your own body) and panic attacks. I know these are a very common, lasting and concerning set of symptoms.
If you have any sort of Lyme arthritis, I recommend taking MSM Glucosamine everyday for 3-4 months as well.
DAILY ROUTINE
SLEEP: 10pm is latest bed time.
MORNING:
Take Serrapeptase + the Amino Acids on an empty stomach
Wait 30 minutes before eating
Make a smoothie with veggies, fruits and aloe vera.
Later in the morning, make a meal that is high protein (gluten-free)
After eating, take the following supplements:
A multivitamin
Organic Oregano Oil (or Garlic Extract, if you prefer)
AFTERNOON:
Whenever you’re ready to begin exercising, you’re ready to take Vitamin B3.
Make sure to take the kind that makes you flush.
You take this on a gradient.
Start with 50mg one day, 100mg the next, etc. until you get up to about 2000mg without major flushing.
Your body becomes immune to the effect of the vitamin and as this detoxifies you, there will be less reaction.Once you take the B3, start doing cardio for 30 mins. You can go on a run, run on a treadmill, run in place, etc.
Move onto upper body weights for 15 minutes.Make sure to focus on the parts of your body that are causing you trouble or feel weak.
During this exercise, you will be flushing slightly from the Niacin. Some days will be stronger than others. Just keep going with this. After a couple of weeks, you feel a very extreme difference in your mindset and your body will feel different.
Note: If your body and mind aren't up for so much motion, you can just sit in one place and set out to accomplish starting and finishing something. This could be an art project, reading a chapter of a book, organizing a box, anything. Get your body and mind active to an extent and work your body up gradually. If you can sit in one place and swing your arms around to get your blood flowing, that’s fine too. Weird, I know but at this point, we’ll take what we can get. After this workout, make sure to eat a snack.
Avoid:
Acid-inducing foods (tomatoes, etc.)
Dairy
Gluten
Non-organic meat
Non-organic food
Anger/Stressful Environments (they don’t let the body heal and trigger hormones)
Anti-depressants, valium, prescription drugs and painkillers. I know that’s a tall ask but it’s important to know if you’re body is working without any bandaids.
Supplements that help with crippling body anxiety:Ashwagandha (The best of the best. Organic India has a great one.)
GABA (there's a lozenge form called GABA CALM which I love and works quickly)
Lemon Balm
Valerian Root (before sleep only)
Passion Flower
MENTALITY:
In deciding to survive, I also had to adjust my mentality. I went from being certain that I would die to fighting for my life with all my might. I had to change my mind and willing to be a disciplined soldier fighting this war for my life. It may feel impossible. You may feel too weak. But I promise you: with persistence, you begin to feel like you have control of your health and life back.
Another point on this: don’t try to go back to the person you were before were sick. This should NOT be the goal. This mentality lies in the same pool as regret and regret gets you NOWHERE. Think of your future as something that lies ahead of you. You are not able to erase this situation but you can fix it, you can become stronger and bloom into the beautiful, healthy person you will become.
NOTES:
I took the serrapeptase 3 months on and 3 months off. I did two 3-month cycles myself.
I took the B3 Niacin until 2000mg and remained on 2000mg for 3 weeks. If I felt my symptoms coming back at all, I would do the Niacin cycle again. I did it about 2-3 times over a period of a year.
If your stomach is sensitive, make sure to take probiotics, aloe vera concentrate and l-glutamine to strengthen it.
I’ll be providing an updated list of stomach products soon. I finally figured out my digestion after recovering and need to provide this regime as well.
